May Newsletter

May is a very busy time for us at Grace Baptist Church! There are many activities and many opportunities to CONNECT with our brothers and sisters in Christ, as well as reaching out to those who need to know our Savior.

Mother's day

This month is special for many reasons but one in particular is that it is the month in which we pay special tribute to our mothers. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson established that the second Sunday in May would be set aside to honor motherhood. The Bible commands us to "honor [our] fathers and mothers" all the time, but Mother's Day gives us a special opportunity to express how much we appreciate and love our mothers. Here at Grace, we also use this occasion to show-off our babies in the annual 'Baby Day Parade' and family dedication.

Connect Group Fellowships
April 30th was our first Sunday night for "Connect Group Fellowships". From backyards to parks, there were several different groups that enjoyed connecting with others around Wilmington. If you didn't make it out this time around, then we would love for you to join a group next time we have our connect group fellowships on July 31st!

Three Aspects of Authentic Worship

During the month of May, we are emphasizing connecting through worship. Believers in Jesus Christ have the privilege of worshipping the God of the universe both individually and corporately. Because our hearts are prone to worshipping other gods, we are to make worship a priority in our lives. Psalm 29:2 says, “Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness.” The Bible has a plethora of verses addressing the issue of worship. While Psalm 29:2 is just one example of a worship-themed verse, I find this short text quite instructive.
As we consider this brief verse of Scripture I want to highlight three aspects of authentic worship.
Note, first of all, authentic worship is directed toward the proper object. The Lord, Jehovah, is the only true object of worship. Because we are vulnerable to idolatry and self-glory, our rebellious hearts have to consistently be directed back to the Lord through private and corporate worship. Consider your heart for a moment, and try to identify the actual object of your worship. Has something or someone other than God been allowed to sit on the throne of your heart? Since we become like we worship, take a careful assessment of the fruit your life is bearing. Are you becoming more like Jesus? Or have you...
